King Louis
AN ALTERNATIVE PROG ROCK BAND BASED IN EXETER
KING LOUIS blend prog rock, folk noir, and nu-metal.
Involving Music are pleased to introduce you to King Louis.
KING LOUIS are a genre-bending band- sitting within progressive rock to Rock Opera, with influences from folk noir to neu-metal. They have been a consistent presence in the South West music scene, stemming out from Exeter where they formed and are currently based. Now in 2025, the band have geared up for the release of multiple new tracks, having matured into artists to be taken sonically seriously and have worked to push their limits as far as they can
KING LOUIS began in late 2022, debuting with an EP ‘HAPPENINGS AT MIDNIGHT’ which has still stayed a staple to their live shows, featuring tracks like ‘World of the Dead’, a crowd favourite. They have played across the South West and had a reputation as a hot opener and high in demand from Exeter based promoters. KING LOUIS shows guarantee headbanging to roaring riffs, soaring vocals and layers upon layers of musical intensity.
Okay, that was 2022…where are they now?

The band admit to have been quiet- after releasing just one single last year ‘Red Sea’, they have been refining their live shows and have been locked away writing new music. Red Sea is a classic prog rock banger (in a ridiculous time signature) and garnered praise from listeners and music professionals- with the drum part (played by Ben Harding) even being studied as part of a music course in Bristol.
Josh, the frontman, tells us that Red Sea was a great trial run for KING LOUIS’ creative output.
“We tried something new- we invested in a creative short-form music video and campaign and learnt a lot from it. I was beginning to become comfortable as a creative, pushing a couple of boundaries back and exploring new elements of my voice on the track. I found it difficult previously to explore these parts of my artistry, if you can call it that. I guess it really does take a lot of self-reflection, collaborative help from others and the vulnerability to admit you don’t always know what to do”
KING LOUIS headlined the Cavern on 18th February this year (2025).
“For us, that was the first step of growth. To headline a venue we have played multiple times for other awesome bands as an opener, to seeing a crowd that are there for you is epic and showed us that we have the confidence of our friends and local music lovers to really push out a new project at full force”
“Our new tracks (which will be coming soon we promise!) are the result of maturity as a creative group. I’ve had the time to listen and absorb the advice of truly amazing people like Jacob from Poppyshow/Stiff Crowd, and Ptolemy, our guitarist, composer and great friend. I want you to feel like we’re on a journey and you’re coming with us- there’s always difficulty in life, especially when I feel like things are moving too fast for me to keep up. KING LOUIS has taken a deep breath, and now we’re ready to show you what we can do haha! It’s so important to know that every person that has ever come to a KING LOUIS show has helped us get into gear for our new releases. So yeah, thank you <3”

– Chelsea Branch
Chelsea Branch, a roots, rocksteady, reggae and everything in between enthusiast. First gig was to see the Ordinary Boys at the Lemon Grove (Exeter) at 16 after taking a liking to their Ska-inspired track 'Rudy's in Love' (and the frontman, Preston). After University, she spent seven years in brilliant Bristol, revelling in its dynamic music scene—a move very much inspired by a first-time visit to St Paul's Carnival. She now lives in Exeter alongside her partner Bev, embracing Devon country life and swapping sound systems for sea swimming and scriptwriting.
