The feeling of regret and disappointment that can accompany the realisation that you are not as young as you once were sits at the centre of the song. Chown describes it as a hard-strummed track that drags the sound of teenage angst into a life of adult frustration.

‘Fear of Heights’ is the lead single from Chown’s forthcoming debut album, ‘The Late Great Joe Chown’, due for release on 28 October 2026.

Combining the raw emotion and energy of his punk rock background with the storytelling of folk music, Chown has been performing around the South West since he was 13, from small-town bars and support slots to festivals.

He cites Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty among his songwriting influences while retaining roots in heavier alternative music. His songs and live performances have also led to radio play from BBC Introducing.

‘Fear of Heights’ was recorded at Cube Recordings in Truro and engineered by Tom Sennitt and Chez Jeffery.
