Penryn contemporary folk band Wake the River release their new single, ‘Run for Love’, on 7 August 2026. It is the first single from an EP planned for 2027.

Written by lead vocalist Elizabeth Freeborn, the song celebrates running towards life. The band describe it as featuring playful time signatures and a climactic build.

The single is the first Wake the River have recorded themselves, working from their new rural studio in Cornwall.

“A Wake the River first, we recorded this single ourselves in our new, rural Cornish studio, in competition with brains that don’t always remember to hit save, a barking dog and farm machinery sonic vibes. We think we got away with it!” says Amy Woodburn.

Elizabeth Freeborn adds: “Despite the heaviness of the world, we all have the right to make art, and I think everyone deserves the chance to feel the healing power of doing so and sharing it with others.”

Wake the River present hook-centred songwriting that draws on folk, indie and grooves from around the world. The band say their music celebrates the fragility and scale of the natural world and human spirit.

Together for almost seven years, Wake the River have appeared twice on the Cornwall Folk Festival main stage, including its Frontier Friday programme for emerging South West music. They have also received airplay from BBC Introducing, RTÉ Radio 1 and Amazing Radio, and performed a live session for John Kennedy on Radio X.

Their previous live appearances include The Bedford in London, the Eden Project and The Cornish Bank in Falmouth.
