no ordinary fish release new single ‘lucky’

Exeter four-piece no ordinary fish released their new single ‘lucky’ on 9 October 2026.

The idea for the song arrived when the next-door neighbours’ dog had a litter of puppies. Written by Debbie Pearce, ‘lucky’ uses the journey from puppyhood to a fully grown dog as an analogy for a cynical look at relationships. The band describe the track as having an early 90s punky indie-rock feel, with a touch of Riot Grrrl, choppy riffs, pulsing drum beats and a wry set of lyrics. They say the song has been going down well when played live and describe it as “barking good fun”.

The release marks a change of direction for the band, who describe it as much more upbeat and catchy. A promotional video is also due for release on the same day as the single.

no ordinary fish are a four-piece retro rock/pop band made up of Stu Pearce on bass guitar and vocals, Debbie Pearce on rhythm guitar and vocals, Rich Booth on lead and rhythm guitar, and Joe Martin on drums. The band have released two albums and describe their songs as eclectic, with rich melodies and boy/girl harmony vocals, citing Blondie, The Stone Roses and Radiohead among their influences.

‘Lucky’ was recorded, mixed and mastered at Brazen Studios by Ian Poole.
