Detour describe ‘On The Road’ as a woozy coming-of-age tale of nostalgia, longing and hope, offering a different side of the Exeter sextet ahead of their forthcoming EP.

The six-piece formed at Exeter College in 2025 and have recently graduated. Their debut single, ‘Respectable’, was released through Golden Mare Recording Co. in June 2026. The band says the track subsequently received national radio play, reviews and more than 5,000 Spotify streams.

‘On The Road’ sees Detour exploring a different side of their character. The band describe the song as a “woozy coming of age tale of nostalgia, longing and hope.” It is their second single and the second taste of a forthcoming EP. The release is also the sixth issued by Golden Mare Recording Co.

Detour are Himaya Leigh on vocals, Mim Johns on vocals and flute, Ollie Morrish on vocals and saxophone, Josie Wakefield on drums, Patrick Longland on bass and cello, and Wilfred Bell on vocals and guitar.

Written by Detour, with lyrics by Wilfred Bell. The track was engineered by Alex Firrell and Soteris McDade, mixed and mastered by Alex Firrell, and released through Golden Mare Recording Co.

Darren Branch’s first love was Heavy Metal, sparked by seeing Iron Maiden live at the Cornwall Coliseum in 1984 at the age of 13.
