Most workplace songs are about escaping on Friday afternoon. Sound of Fable are interested in what happens when the place itself has become impossible to endure.
‘Somebody Has a Gun’ is the second single taken from the Cornwall band’s forthcoming album, Quiet Firing. Its subject sits within the wider themes of the record, which examines employment rights, toxic working environments and the unsettling experience of being treated unfairly by people holding power.
It is serious ground for a song, but hardly remote or theoretical. Work shapes a large part of adult life, meaning the damage caused by hostile management or an unfair dismissal rarely stays neatly inside the office.
Sound of Fable formed around the songwriting partnership of Noel and Kyla Prior. What began as a smaller collaboration gradually expanded into a full band, with their music bringing together layered guitars, piano and story-led songwriting.
Their earlier releases, including Circus of Words, All the Colours and Dynamo Daisy, documented different points in their personal and creative lives. Much of that work was shaped by Cornwall’s clay country, where place, identity and change became part of the writing.
The current line-up features Kyla Prior on lead vocals, Noel Prior on vocals and guitar, Sam Foster on lead guitar, drummer Phil Brown and bassist Nik Savage. Steve Clifford appears as guest saxophonist. Noel also arranged and produced the new single.
Now based around Fowey, Sound of Fable return with a broader full-band sound and a subject carrying real weight. ‘Somebody Has a Gun’ does not need to invent a distant villain. It looks instead at the quieter forms of intimidation happening behind ordinary workplace doors.
The single was released on 14 June 2026 and is available now. Quiet Firing will follow.
