Wuzy Bambussy is the creation of songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Nikolai Jones and vocalist Kat Harrison. Based in the West Country, the duo, together with guitarist Iggy Deverall and a cast of musical accomplices, invokes a diverse soundtrack of rhythmic, melancholic vibes that draw on funk, folk, indie rock, and electronica.
Released in early 2026 on the label Loose Unit Recordings, “By Candlelight” is the strong second single from Wuzy Bambussy’s upcoming EP, The Ghost & The Rhythm, due in April. From the very start, the track is dramatic. I couldn’t help but sense an air reminiscent of a James Bond theme, with its impressive chords and memorable tone. In just under three minutes, the single progresses with subtle drama, using its tense melody and atmosphere to make a big impression in an understated fashion.
The track is modern yet carries a classic, bluesy feel, giving it a distinctive character, enhanced by Kat Harrison’s impressive vocals. Her performance is fantastic, delivering each line with clarity and emotional intent. At times, Kat acts as a narrator, steering the listener through the story. Lyrically, the song is evocative, with lines such as “feel the future, feel defiant” sharing hope and a sense of spiritual resistance.
The single shifts between hypnotic, folk acoustic guitars and stomping, glam–rock–inspired choruses. The confessional stylings of the lead singer speak of a vigil for an undying love across time, while also celebrating female empowerment in moments of darkness.
For me, “By Candlelight” stands out as an incredibly catchy track and a creative, carefully crafted story. I particularly enjoyed the intense moments toward the end. They felt like a dramatic climax, drawing me in and letting me form my own interpretation.
These closing moments leave a lingering impression, showcasing the attention Wuzy Bambussy gives to both sound and storytelling, inviting reflection and consideration.
