Some album endings wave brightly from the station platform. ‘Traveller’ appears to disappear into the fog while you are still deciding what it meant.
The track closes FILTER, the latest album by art-rock artist GRICE, and received its own video release on 10 July 2026. Built around suspended vocals, synth textures, cello and fragments of muted felt piano, it leaves the record in a reflective place rather than reaching for a grand final flourish.
‘Traveller’ features Steve Jansen, known for his work with Japan and Exit North. His atmospheric contribution sits within a wider album shaped by an extensive cast of musicians, including Richard Barbieri, David Torn, Luca Calabrese and Theo Travis.
Across its 14 tracks, FILTER uses the language of radio frequencies as a way of examining the noise surrounding modern life. Short, medium and VHF wave bands become part of a musical landscape concerned with information, manipulation and the filters people place between themselves and the world.
GRICE, also known as Grice Peters, is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer whose work moves through art rock, electronica and progressive music. His live performances are closely tied to projected imagery, making a visual interpretation of ‘Traveller’ feel like a natural extension of the music rather than an extra item clipped onto it afterwards.
The track also carries the album’s quieter environmental concerns. FILTER considers not only digital and social filters, but the natural systems that protect the planet, including the atmosphere, algae and coral.
By its closing moments, ‘Traveller’ does not appear interested in resolving every question the album has raised. It simply keeps moving.
