The South West – Cornwall & Devon

The South West embraces the first week of November.

The South West’s autumn calendar hits full stride this week, blending nostalgia, roots and raw electricity. Bastille bring widescreen indie-pop to Plymouth Pavilions, John Smith returns home to Exeter Phoenix with soulful, road-worn folk, and Skindred ignite Torquay’s Arena with their riotous ragga-metal.

Brighton’s Bones Ate Arfa crash into Exeter Cavern with junkyard riffs and punk attitude, while Tamsin Elliott Trio conjure pastoral beauty at Ashburton Arts Centre. Rounding it out, Silk Cuts launch their long-awaited debut at the Cavern — proof that from Plymouth to Ashburton, the region’s stages are alive with energy, craft and celebration.

Bastille is an English indie pop band formed in London in 2010 by singer-songwriter Dan Smith, later joined by Chris “Woody” Wood, Will Farquarson, and Kyle Simmons. Their breakout album, “Bad Blood,” went straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2013, propelled largely by the international success of their single “Pompeii”.

Known for cinematic production and thoughtful lyricism, Bastille has released five studio albums and achieved widespread global recognition, selling over 13 million records and winning major awards such as the British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards.

John Smith @ Exeter Phoenix

Thursday 6th November 2025

Born in Essex, raised by the Devon seaside and making his bones in the bars and clubs of Liverpool, England’s one and only John Smith has been at the pioneering forefront of British Folk Guitar Music for twenty years.

He has amassed over 100 million Spotify streams and played his songs all over the world. He cut his teeth opening for John Martyn and has since played with Joan Baez, Jackson Browne, Sarah Jarosz, Lisa Hannigan, David Gray, The Milk Carton Kids, Roseanne Cash, Jerry Douglas and Richard Hawley. His seventh album ‘The Living Kind’, produced by Joe Henry, is a soulful and intimate exploration of emotional, Americana-influenced atmospherics. John will be releasing a new album later in 2025.

Skindred @ Arena Torquay

Friday 7th November 2025

Skindred is a genre-blending rock band from Newport, Wales, formed in 1998 by frontman Benji Webbe following the breakup of his previous band, Dub War. Famed for their high-energy live shows, Skindred uniquely fuses heavy metal with reggae, punk, and electronic music, earning international acclaim and major live music awards.

The group is widely recognized as a pioneering force in “ragga metal” and continues to be closely associated with the vibrant Newport music scene.

Bones Ate Arfa @ Exeter Cavern

Friday 7th November 2025

Hosted by Obvious Events and Trust Artists, Brighton-based rockers Bones Ate Arfa are coming to the Exeter Cavern for the first time as part of their ‘It’s All Good’ tour!

Bones Ate Arfa are a UK psychedelic street punk/desert rock three piece, made up of Bones (guitar), 8 (drums), and Arfa (vocals & bass). Once described as “Junkyard dog riffs” after the release of their debut single ‘Asbestos’, they have since gained recognition online and in person from Artists such as Muse, Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Isaac Holman (SOFT PLAY), Royal Blood, Tigercub, cool sorcery, Demob Happy, and Bad Nerves.

While attaining a respectable following on social media, they have received spins and features on Clash Magazine, BBC Radio 6, Radio X, Dork, Earmilk, Louder Than War, and have successfully burned their stamp into the UK’s southern gig circuit, all in under two years.

Tamsin Elliot Trio @ Ashburton Arts Centre

Exploring themes of chronic illness and environmental grief, FREY offers a poignant reflection on the human experience, whilst her forthcoming album The Meeting Tree celebrates connection, nature and the joy of sharing tunes with friends. Tamsin will perform with long term collaborators Sid Goldsmith (cittern/concertina) and Rowan Elliott (fiddle).
