Exeter’s mid-September gigs deliver post-rock, indie, reggae and grassroots energy

Exeter is rolling into mid-September with another stacked week of gigs. This week we’ve got plenty of post-rock intensity and indie folk storytelling, along with reggae rhythms and all-out festival energy. The city’s live music calendar keeps proving why the South West is the top spot for grassroots sounds.

Here’s our pick of what’s on this week.

Lastelle @ Exeter Cavern

Wednesday 17th September – Lastelle @ Exeter Cavern

Lastelle bring their emotive post-rock and post-hardcore sound to the Cavern. Known for blending shoegaze textures with modern metal and raw lyrical honesty, their sets hit hard both musically and emotionally. Expect soaring melodies, atmospheric build-ups and cathartic drops in tracks like Breathe Me In and Life in Silhouettes.

Bess Atwell @ Exeter Phoenix

Thursday 18th September – Bess Atwell @ Exeter Phoenix

Indie folk meets dream pop in Bess Atwell’s intimate and reflective songs. With a gift for writing narratives that touch on anxiety, identity and the small details of everyday life, her live shows offer a quietly powerful space to connect. Perfect for fans of honest, delicate songwriting rooted in tradition but unafraid to stretch into new sonic territory.

Revelation Roots @ The Old Firehouse

Friday 19th September – Revelation Roots @ The Old Firehouse

If you want a Friday night that lifts the whole room, Revelation Roots will bring it. Mixing reggae, ska and dub with touches of blues and funk, their sets are high-energy, soulful and guaranteed to get the crowd moving. Expect deep grooves, vibrant rhythms and the kind of basslines that stick with you long after the night ends.

SOUND Festival @ Exeter Cavern

Saturday 20th September – SOUND Festival @ Exeter Cavern

SOUND Festival lands at the Cavern for an evening dedicated to women in music. With a line-up that includes Lizzie Esau, Dirty Blonde, Haytor, Leonard & The Zombies, Rat Trap and Japan Man, this event is all about bold voices and fresh talent. Organised by Sound Factory in support of SOUND Magazine, it’s more than a gig—it’s a statement about representation and change in the music industry. Proceeds go to Music Venue Trust, making it a night with impact on and off the stage.

The Cindys! @ Exeter Cavern

Sunday 21st September – The Cindys! @ Exeter Cavern

Spinning Sister brings Bristol’s The Cindys to the Cavern for a night of jangly, guitar-driven goodness. Influenced by The Clean and Alex Chilton, their set promises lo-fi charm and infectious melodies. Support comes from The Motorcycles with their shambolic pop energy, plus an acoustic outing from Bramwell. One for fans of DIY spirit and raw, catchy songwriting.

Exeter’s grassroots venues are serving up everything this week. We are all ears for the introspective folk, punk spirit and reggae-fuelled joy. So, get planning your midweek mosh or a full weekend of live music. Involving Music has got you covered.
