This week brings post-punk energy, jazz fusion, alt-folk intimacy and full-throttle funk, the week is stacked with reasons to get out and catch live music.

Here’s our pick of what’s on in Exeter this week.

The Cords + Silk Cuts + Pushbike @ Cavern

Tuesday 30th September

Kicking off the week, The Cords land in Exeter with their fuzzed-out indie pop. With sold-out merch drops, a debut album on the way, and support slots for cult names like The Pastels and The Vaselines, they’ve been making serious noise on the UK scene.

They’re joined by local favourites Silk Cuts, an Exeter three-piece delivering jangly, nostalgic indie with a modern twist and Pushbike, whose post-rock guitar walls and shimmering hooks recall the best of Hüsker Dü and Teenage Fanclub. Expect a night of noisy, heartfelt chaos in the best possible way.

The Little Unsaid @ Exeter Phoenix

Thursday 2nd October

Alt-folk collective The Little Unsaid return with their expansive, deeply personal sound. Known for gigs that connect and celebrate, the four-piece have built a reputation on raw honesty and dynamic musicianship.

Their latest record, written through improvised sessions, strips things back to instinct and first-take magic. Expect a night that fuses folk roots with post-rock edges into something completely their own.

Moya Silk @ Bootlegger

Thursday 2nd October

Exeter’s own Moya Silk plays a homecoming show after storming through a UK and EU tour. With a full live band in tow, Jaz Pearce channels shoegaze textures, grunge bite and ‘90s alt-rock spirit into something fiercely personal.

If you like your music loud ‘n unapologetic, this gig is not one to miss.

Birmingham’s Overpass are riding a wave of acclaim after supporting Inhaler and Two Door Cinema Club, with NME and Dork both tipping them as ones to watch. Their indie rock is all anthemic choruses, sharp guitar lines and a live energy that’s already filling venues up and down the country.

They’re joined by a solid support line-up, making this one of the week’s big tickets at the Cavern.

Cantaloop @ Old Firehouse

Friday 3rd October

Funk, punk, soul, jazz, hip-hop. Cantaloop mix it all into a turbocharged live set. Fresh from new remixes and a string of glowing reviews, the band’s shows are high-energy, unpredictable, and guaranteed to have you moving.

Expect deep grooves, sharp brass and a rhythm section built for late-night dancing. The Old Firehouse will be bouncing.

King Heron @ 12 Bar

Saturday 4th October

Bristol nu-jazz trio King Heron bring groove-heavy explorations and progressive soundscapes to 12 Bar. Their EP Risky Business has been championed by BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM and Radio 3, and their live sets blend improvisation with serious musicianship.

Think tight rhythms, lyrical guitar work and a show that’s never played the same way twice.

Grandma’s House @ Cavern

Sunday 5th October

Closing out the week, Bristol four-piece Grandma’s House bring their raucous post-punk to the Cavern. With a growing reputation built on festival sets at Reading, Green Man and 2000 Trees, they’re one of the most exciting bands in the South West shaking things up right now.
