About Playwriter:

Playwriter are a four-piece indie outfit out of Plymouth, built around the songwriting of guitarist Leo Cunningham and shaped by Tom Parker on keys, Norman Buchan on drums and Jon Fazal on bass. What started as a friendship from Leo and Tom's solo ambient projects slowly evolved into something more collaborative. By summer 2024, the line-up had locked in, and by early 2025, they were fully formed and ready to step into the light.

They’ve wasted no time since. Shows across the South West have gathered momentum, including packed rooms in Plymouth and Exeter, with BBC Introducing offering early backing. There’s a quiet confidence around them: no big noise, just steady growth and a loyal following building gig by gig.

In January, they released their debut EP, EVERYDAY, ending months of teasing singles that carried listeners through the winter. The record blends jazz-leaning ambience with soft indie textures and subtle electronic touches. It feels spacious and unhurried, the musical equivalent of a long coastal walk under a pale spring sky. There’s melancholy in there, but also warmth and a thread of playfulness that keeps things buoyant.

Playwriter sits somewhere between understated indie-rock and easy-listening psychedelia. Melodic, thoughtful and low-key, they favour mood over bombast, craft over clutter. It’s music that rewards attention without demanding it. They’ve quietly made their mark across the South West, with more shows lined up and fresh releases on the horizon.
